Test Rig

Motor and battery test rig

Warning: Make sure you use a chain guard with chain connected motors !

The test rig consists of TPM/Rotary Racers battery/motor test board. This is a board that allows two motors to be connected with a chain. The second motor is used as a generator driving two sets of 5 x 12V 50W halogen lamps. The first motor is the motor under test. This was driven using the CarComputer and Motor speed controller so that the voltage and current used can be displayed. We measure the test motors RPM and current (RPM measurement not shown in the above picture).

We then compare the RPM and Current figures with respect to a know good motor and to the Framco motor performace graphs to see how well they matched.

Motor Renishaw M2

This is an old motor as used by Renishaw. We think it is faulty and the results shows this.

Free running: RPM: 2420 @ 2.7A

Voltage RPM Voltage Current Power
12 860 11.29 13.5 152
24 1860 22.62 19.75 446

Motor RR1

This is an old motor as used by Rotary Racer in the past (RR5,RR6). We think it is faulty, having a shorted winding and the results shows this.

Free running: RPM: 2380 @ 2.18A

Voltage RPM Voltage Current Power
12 870 12.02 12.49 150
24 1870 23.94 18.14 434

Motor RR2

This is the current motor as used by Rotary Racer (RR7 and RR8). We think it is fine.

Free running: RPM: 2180 @ 2.0A

Voltage RPM Voltage Current Power
12 840 12.05 11.48 138
24 1800 24.02 16.12 387
