Rotary Racer Todo List

Date Description
9/9/08

First day back

  • Short meeting on direction
  • Finance.
  • Look at new rules and work out what needs to be modified
  • Look at seat modifications. See work. Do drivers still fit !
  • Finish motor holes and fit filters.
  • Look at putting the motor inside the car. See work.
  • Car Horn. Start designing new programmable car horn.
  • Try out different gears on the car
16/9/08
  • Finish seat modification
  • Make motor mouning plate
  • Make and Fit tempreture sensor to motor
  • Fit motor in car
  • Check gearing
  • Fit silicone bead around windscreen (at end of session)
23/9/08
  • Finish fitting motor
  • Cut chain to length and fit (17,18 and 19 tooth gears)
  • Make front chain guard and fit (Aluminium sheet mounted with two self tapping screws ?).
  • Bore out 20 tooth cog and drill and tap for 6mm Alan bolt (If there is time ...)
  • Fit motor cooling fans
  • Fix tyre
  • Lads can look at Dunsfoold circuit.
  • Shorten and fit rear triangle holding pin (need thin cord to attach to car).
  • Upload latest CarComputer software.
  • Test car around tennis courts

Terrys House

  • Tidy up motor installation and remove old motor
  • Tidy up and fit underside Boat Coat (Do we have the spare boat coat somewhere ?)
  • Fit new tubes and tyres
  • Glue windscreen edging.
  • Clean and re-oil the chain.
28/9/08

Dunsfold Park London (We will enter this one, with the high (2.9 ?) gears)

  • Test run with 19 -> 57 gears. Check average current and if greater than 24 Amp then test run with 18 ->57 gear. If lower than 24 Amp try 20 -> 57 gears.
30/9/08
  • Meeting.
  • Look at modifing the car so that James will fit.
  • Scaletrix !
7/10/08
  • Make new perspex bonnet.
  • Reduce length of steering bar to save Lads bits ...
  • Make new Pit-Stop board ?
  • New labels for bonnet ?
  • Add LED signalling for throttle control (software)
14/10/08
  • Bore out chainwheel spacer by 1mm.
  • Refit airfoils around rollbar.
  • Finish off car
  • Finish pit-board
  • Test around tenis courts
  • Pit-Stop practice
19/10/08 Goodwood Final
Work
  • Design new banner and pitstop board. (Do we want a RR Logo ?)(Gareth and Ben, with Ian)
  • Look at changing the gear ratios to around 2.9. (James and Kevan)
  • Look at Improving the Aero Dynamics. (Anyone)
  • New programmable horn (Terry and Lads)
  • Telemetry system (Terry, Kevan + ?)
Future
  • Shorten stearing stem
  • Test efficiency of motor speed controller with lower gearing using motor/light test board.
  • Improve aerodynamics
  • Improve seat: Extend drivers seat backwards or forward a bit (the drivers should then be lower and more comfortable and there should be more space for installing the motor inside the car)
  • Fit motor inside car. Fix to plywood base. Will need metal plates on each side of plywood. Underside plate having captive bolts and plates should be able to move to tension chain.
  • Better motor cooling. Bigger fan so that air can flow through and over the motor. Vaned heat sinks on the motor ?
  • Improve low voltage warning
  • Improve battery loading rack
  • Telemetry for car data
  • Driver/pits communications
  • Try out car with the larger rear tyres.
  • Try doing pit stops with Two drivers and two battery changers. Check rules on this
  • Test how hot the amarture gets in the motor during normal racing to see what effect cooling will have. We can measure the motors resistance cold and hot to do this.
  • Build Spare speed controller.
Future

Car Testing

  • Test Car with lower gearing and Car Computer controlling speed with Motor Speed controller.
  • Calculate Rolling resistance and Air Drag Coefficient
18/9/08 Dorset race
